With the number of children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD, depression, anxiety or other attention challenges rising each year, there is an increasing need for educational and clinical strategies so professionals can address these needs. In order to develop successful strategies, professionals must first understand what is driving the behavior or creating the symptoms. The Overindulged Child: Myths, Symptoms & Strategies presented by Emily Stevens, Ph.D.

Overindulgence has become one of the leading causes for behavior problems in schools, colleges and businesses as the "you owe me" syndrome has increased. Good intentions, busy parents and distracted, overscheduled lifestyles have led to unhealthy parenting styles. There is an increasing focus on how overindulgence is leading many children to unrealistic social, behavioral and lifestyle expectations including issues with social skills, relationships, self-esteem, impulse control, behavior problems and inappropriate emotional expectations.

Helping Children with Auditory Processing Disorders presented by Jay R. Lucker, Ed.D., CCC-A/SLP, FAAA

Participants will explore what can be provided to appropriately help children identified with auditory processing deficits. The focus will be on strategies that children need to utilize in order to process information at each of the various levels of auditory processing. Attention, Language Processing and Sensorimotor Disorders in Children: New Integrative Approaches to Assessment and Intervention presented by Carol Kauffman, MA/CCC-SLP
- Research has confirmed that many children diagnosed with attention deficits have coexisting language and sensorimotor disorders which are often overlooked, thus delaying much needed treatment. Conversely, many children in speech-language in occupational therapy programs exhibit a variety of attention, medical and mental health issues that are under-identified. Subsequently, service delivery is often "patchwork" and fragmented. In this course, participants will receive the practical tools they need to organize their profession’s services into the entire management process, no matter what their profession or setting. From the clinic to the classroom, participants will learn step-by-step intervention systems and strategies, including new advances in nutrition and technology.
